ABOUT THE EMBROIDERED MOTIF
This traditional piece of Portuguese jewellery, in its origin of religious inspiration, refers to the city of Viana do Castelo located in the north of Portugal.
Its characteristic shape is worked through a millenary art - the filigree. Resembling a very thin and openwork lace, the delicate jewels - medals or earrings - created with this technique have long been used as precious accessories for special occasions. Transmitted from generation to generation, they can be seen in the traditional costumes of the Portuguese region of Minho and Douro Litoral.
Its great peculiarity, in addition to the complexity of its decoration, is the existence of a countercurve on one of its sides, which gives it a contemporary and festive beauty. This combination of form (heart) and material (gold or silver) has turned the image of Viana Heart not only into a symbol of Portuguese filigree but also an icon of Portugal as it represents its history, culture and tradition.
